Wattz International - Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata or AA as it is known, is thought to be caused by an auto immune disorder. Alopecia Areata is obvious, by initial small round bald patches that may remain as that, or can progress to many patches that will eventually join up to become much larger patches that become harder to disguise.

Alopecia Areata is usually a temporary type of hair loss perhaps like a "BLIP" in your health or equilibrium. The Alopecia Areata may only last approximately 18 months.

Unfortunately for some this can go on for years with patches appearing then growing hair again and then another appearing elsewhere.

It is inadvisable to use any form of adding hair whilst the Alopecia Areata is active. Wait until it settles and slows down.

In the meantime scalp cover or scalp make up may be effective, if not perhaps a temporary wig until things settle.

Once settled down I would suggest similar hair additions to those with trichotillomania and chemotherapy. It is possible to use the same system safely without risk of damage to new growth or endangering the existing hair how ever large or small the areas to be covered are.
